MICHAEL A. LONGACRE MA, Pre-LPC

Let’s admit it, life is hard, and with these difficulties come suffering. Seeking counseling for this suffering is sometimes a very scary and difficult endeavor. I admire your bravery in seeking help, and pride myself on providing a non-judgmental, accepting, and comfortable space to explore and work on these struggles together.

My approach to therapy is rooted in a compassionate understanding of the human condition and the suffering we endure. I don’t see people as “disordered” or “sick”, I see someone who has had difficult experiences in their life that have led to coping strategies that now cause pain and suffering. I also believe that everyone has their own unique path to walk, and that deep within each of us is a source of wisdom that knows how to walk on this path. It is my belief that as a therapist I am there to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and supportive environment in which I can walk beside you as we collaboratively heal old wounds, make new meaning, and re-discover the wisdom inherent in your True Self.

My path to becoming a therapist started with my own struggles with anxiety and depression, which led me to a path of healing and self-discovery. While you and I may not have experienced the same things in life, nor have the same exact struggles, I believe that through my own suffering and subsequent healing I can be a more empathetic and understanding therapist.

I offer mindfulness and body-based holistic psychotherapy to adults and adolescents across a wide range of issues including, but not limited to, trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, ADD/ADHD, men’s issues, and a harsh inner critic (self-criticism). I also assist clients with spiritual development, existential and spiritual crisis, as well as the wide array of psychological struggles that arise on the Spiritual Path. With a Master’s degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling and personal experience on the Spiritual Path, I offer Transpersonal and Spiritual-based counseling for those who are interested. Drawing from Transpersonal psychology, Buddhist psychology, the Diamond Approach work of A.H. Almaas, Mindfulness, Meditation, and Non-dual philosophy, I can help you see beyond the limits of the ego into the totality of who and what you are. Together we can explore the big questions in life. Questions like: Who am I? Why are we here? What is the meaning of life? What is my purpose? What is this universe we live in? I can also assist with peak experiences. I can help you navigate the difficulties that can arise and also assist with the integration of the experience into your day to day life.

Mike holds a Master’s degree in Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling from Naropa University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Delaware Valley University. Mike draws from many different modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Psychodynamic, Hakomi, Gestalt, Existential, Somatic Experiencing, Buddhist Psychology, and the Diamond Approach work of A.H. Almaas. In his free time Mike enjoys bass fishing, reading, and spending time with his dog, Murphy.
