ASHTANGA YOGA - PRIMARY SERIES

Join us for a six-week journey into the depths of Ashtanga Yoga! Whether you are new to Yoga or a current practitioner, this workshop will allow yourself to discover the therapeutic, meditative & healing potential of Ashtanga Vinyasa. We start by learning breath & alignment with coordinated movement; flowing through standing poses and then go to the floor to study seated postures and lastly, the finishing sequence. We will end classes with a Pranayama Breathing Technique to quiet the mind & settle the nervous system. Since Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a set sequence, we will research these postures piece by piece over the course of six weeks. This is a healing, energizing and fun yoga practice! We will outline modifications for all postures in order to tailor the practice specifically for your body, as well as exploring their full expression to make it a deeper challenge. This workshop will offer plenty of guidance & direction so that you leave with a solid foundation and confidence in the practice of Yoga. Be ready to learn, transform and have fun! I was initially drawn to Yoga after sustaining injuries brought on while training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My studies of Ashtanga Yoga commenced in attempt to heal; learning how to piece the sequence together while coordinating breath & movement. After discovering its deep healing potential I had a strong desire to spread the knowledge of this beautiful system. I have since completed my 200 & 300 hour Anatomy of Ashtanga Yoga Teacher Training in 2016 & 2018 respectively. I am a Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500 hour level with the Yoga Alliance. I believe Yoga is a tool that can shift your mind out of cyclic thought patterns and project one onto a path which facilitates healing and spiritual growth. There are many modalities of Yoga available and they all come with their unique offering. Ashtanga resonates with me at a very personal level; I believe it is a practice you can have for life, inside or out of the studio. Its rewards can be experienced by every-body and can touch every-soul. My philosophy, show up at the top of your mat, express the power of your breath and practice from your heart!
We ask that students arrive at least ten minutes before class to check in and prepare for class. We will not allow people to enter class 10 minutes after start time. This is for your safety and the consideration of our other clients. Please silence your phone for the duration of your visit to provide a distraction-free environment for all. The Unity Barn is a space of calm and quiet.
