CURRENT GROUP OFFERINGS
Jonathan Labman, MA, LPC, E-RYT
Starting in September 2017, as soon as 8 people register.
Awakening Boot Camp is designed to be a weekly group practice session, in which you learn and practice the fundamentals of meditation, mindfulness and ‘thought busting’ so that you can be led into the deepest practices of whatever Enlightenment traditions call you.
We have the ability to discover our true nature: truth, consciousness, and love/bliss/freedom/peace. We are already the Divine Itself in human form but, don’t know it because nobody has taught us how to uncover the Truth. We can discover Truth through self-study, thought-busting (mindfulness based cognitive behavioral therapy), and various forms of meditation.
To become simply awakened and progress towards a fuller experience of Enlightenment, very simple practices that are friendly to both Eastern and Western people can be used to uncover your true nature. You are: Infinite, Eternal, Immortal Being; and also the finite, local, ephemeral, form-bound person you call ‘me.
We meet for 90 minutes per week, as a group, in person, to create a group energy that allows for deeper meditation and greater self-discovery. Our meetings are Wednesday nights from 7 to 8:30pm at The Unity Barn in Doylestown, PA. We also practice meditation every day at home, beginning with a short moving or seated meditation (for beginners) and getting longer with each week of practice. All group sessions are strictly confidential. The group will have from 8 to 12 individuals in it.
In addition to our group meetings, individual sessions are required to be scheduled for each participant on a monthly or semi-monthly basis (as you choose) with Jonathan, so that you can gain some insight, in privacy, into some of the deeper blockages that keep you from knowing your Self.
The insights of meditation will be compared to the experiences of those in the historical wisdom traditions, so that you can intelligently understand and discriminate between one form of inner experience and another. You will be expected to learn how to use your intelligence to make discriminative assessments, and your heart and gut to feel what is true for you.
The nature of Enlightenment and its various myths, will be discussed, so that again you can compare your own progress to the various maps of the traditions that you are drawn to work in. The nature of your ego (the process of thinking and the feelings that thinking produces), persona and shadow, will be examined in detail and their various falsehoods will be uncovered by ‘thought busting’ which is a simplified way to challenge the truth of every thought you think. Also, the nature of consensual reality will be examined in its many subjective ‘truths,’ many of which are absolute falsehoods.
No prior training is necessary. No adherence to a particular spiritual path, doctrine or dogma is necessary. No special clothes, incense, meditation equipment, postures, crystals, beads or other accoutrements are necessary. Other than the fundamentals of meditation, no ritual will be required.
- Weekly Group meetings are $40 each.
- Individual hour-long monthly or semi-monthly sessions are $100 each.
- Total one-month costs are $260-$300 for groups plus one individual session, and $360-400 for groups plus two individual sessions. A discount of $10 per month will be applied for anyone who wishes to make a monthly payment in advance.
The group will meet every week for six months; for those who want to go on, another six-month group will then begin. There will be some scheduled ‘vacations’ so that the teacher can have a break. You will also be permitted your own vacations, if scheduled in advance. You’ll also be excused from weekly meetings if there is a critical family emergency, you are ill, or we all stay home due to a weather emergency.
In addition to committing to weekly group meetings, and monthly or semi-monthly individual meetings, your commitment will be to meditate every day. Journaling is also helpful, though not required.
In order to qualify for this program, you must sit for a formal one-hour interview with the teacher. During the dialog, you’ll be asked about your life, your spiritual journey, and your willingness to make a serious commitment. Your interview is at a non-refundable cost of $50. After completing your interview, you’ll receive an email denial or acceptance letter, with some basic instructions on preparation for the course. A deposit for the first month’s fees must be paid upon acceptance.
